No trips to the nursery during this time of the year. However, I am looking through my inventory of seeds to see what I may need or want for this year's garden. By February I will have the seeds I need ordered.
February - Seeds are sorted and ready. We wait...
March - The 3rd hugelkulture is complete! Phew, that was a job! Waiting for the weather to even out before planting. Here in the southern US we have several cold spells that come through as Spring adjusts, so I wait for the mornings to be above freezing for 10 days straight before planting in the garden. However, I will be starting seeds indoors beginning of April. Yay!
February - garden is still sleeping
March - lots of new growth is poking through. I encourage to let the wild plants grow, they provide nutrients for the soil and the beneficial insects of the garden. I have a lot of henbit, purple dead nettle, cleavers, speedwell, dandelion, yellow dock, golden rod, all medicinal plants as well. I will clean and tidy up the beds as the weather warms up, and as I need the space. Co-creating with Nature is a balance of planning and surrendering, taking cues from the natural world. If its still getting cold (which it is here) keep the wild growth in place to keep healthy soil.
